
Who is Frontier?
JJ Shelley was born and raised in Arizona. After high school, he served 4 years as an infantryman in the Marine Corps. He then spent 3 years as a wildland firefighter on the Tonto National Forest in Arizona. Tired of the constant heat, he uprooted and moved to interior Alaska to pursue his degree in Dietetics. While in school, he met his now-wife Josi. JJ is now a professional dog musher and owner of Frontier Performance Nutrition.
The FPN Philosphy
How do all of these lifestyles tie together? After all, dog mushing and wildland firefighting are about as opposite of lifestyles as one could imagine. One of the biggest similarities that ties everything together is nutrition (hopefully we all eat every day, right?). What we eat is so much more than just a number of calories on a plate. Food choices are behaviors, they are cultures, they are fuel for performance, they are managers of stress. We all use food in different ways, whether we understand why or not. They are also choices that we have to make all day, every day. So don't you think it is important to understand what is best for your body and lifestyle?
There is so much information out there, like the latest red-light technology or new regulations on GLP-1s. Not to say those are bad things, because they can have tremendous benefits, but they mean absolutely nothing if your sleep sucks. They won't improve you feeling like garbage every day if you don't drink enough water. They won't help you lose body fat if you constantly eat more calories than your body can use each day.

Being "healthy" is not something that happens because you inject yourself with the latest peptide. It's a skill that you hone by practicing every day, and 90% of being "healthy" is found in the fundamentals. That's why we start with the basics and teach you how to apply the basics to your individual life. We are all different. We all require different solutions to our personal, every day situations.
The FPN Method
What does 1:1 nutrition coaching look like? Whether you've never cared one bit about your nutrition, or you're an elite athlete looking to take your craft to the next level, we have a place for you here. We have three different Tiers of Coaching depending on your experience and level of commitment (find out more about our Tiers of Coaching here).

Although everything we do is online, it is still a very interactive process. Initially, we have all of our clients track food in a food journal application. We then build out a 3-phase nutrition plan according to their goals. We break that down day-by-day for you so all you have to worry about is accomplishing the goals set for you that day. With our Tier 1 clients, we update goals weekly and meet 1:1 consistently (via Zoom or phone call). ​Ultimately, we are here to guide you AND hold you accountable. Although we have different "diet methods" we apply to our coaching, ultimately the best diet for you is the healthiest diet that you can adhere to for the rest of your life. Success is not found in losing a bunch of weight in 30 days. Success is found in accomplishing your goals and sustaining that positive change forever.
